 Daisy Balloon- real name - Rie Hosokai

has worked for multiple fashion magazines, department stores
and was the creator of the 'DNA dress' for Bjork.

 

Her specialty as given by her name:

small balloons to create intricate dresses.

I still remember when I watched 'Patch Adams' for the first time

and how mesmerized I was at the balloon scene. 

Needless to say that until this very day

I'm awaiting for some sort of chance to encounter

such a magical quirky space... 

AKA. i need to get my ass HERE.

NOW.

 

It's insane to think that these simple latex inflatables 

can create such a dreamy, quirky and magical atmosphere.

(totally doing this for my wedding or something)

This is installation is a maze of white balloons

differing in opacity and in sizes... 

so simple but so ridiculously BREATH TAKING

If I was lucky enough to end up in a space like this, 

I'd be sure to frolic... then maybe do a few failed ballet movements too. 

PERFECTION.

The artist's intention was to not only have you be able to soak in the 

quirky fantastic nature of the balloon themselves 

but to also move around in the quirky fantastic nature 

that the balloons themselves pretty much choreograph.

These GIANT inflatable balloons occupy entireee spaces
only to cover everything in an explosive blow (double pun!) of colour.
Fun time extensions of the works of Christo & Jeanne-Claude
and also Ernesto Neto. I feel like Toronto needs to
blow up (pun!) their fun bubble (pun!) just a little bit more
to make this city a even brighter (pun!!!!!) place! The balloon from the outside.

Credits to National Geographic for making a real life version of
the floating house from the ANIMATED FANTASTICALNESS--
"UP"
(freakin' film made me cry)

A team of engineers, scientists and 2 world class balloon pilots
(so yes, more than just an old man and little Russel)
launched this 16' x 16' x 18' house 3000 THOUSAND of meters into the air with
300 helium filled 8' coloured weather balloons.

UP TIME: approx. 1 hr.

NEW RECORD ACHEIVED: Large balloon cluster flight ever attempted.

The filming of IRL "UP" will be part of the a new National Geographic Channel series,
"How Hard Can It Be?".

Premiering Fall 2011.
