a not so gross worm.

I never thought I'd say this in a million years.
But yes, this worm actually ain't that gross.

Glowworms (aka Arachnocampa luminosa)
engulf the entirety of the Waitomo Glowworn Caves in New Zealand.
The organic and larva-like things illuminate these otherwise
pitch black caves.  They emit light as a chemical reaction under
the same process of bio luminescent microorgamisms (in Australia)
or reactive jellyfish (in British Columbia).

These worms choose to stay in these caves in their larval state.
They spin silk nests and hang long strings of mucus beads (gross)
from the ceiling. Since the cave has no wind, they're not worried
about getting all tangled up in their neighbor's business. On top of that
these are also sticky strings of mucus-y death as it traps prey.

The glowworms on the ceiling are the brightest,
which also means that they are the most hungry.
The light is used to attract curious prey.

Of course, humans are not on their
"to-eat" list and when human interference happens,
they just tend to retract and hide in their nest.
(thank goodness)

... they're super cool and now have redeeming aesthetic qualities
but that doesn't mean I'll be playing with these anytime soon.
(I would probably lose my mind if one
of these things dropped into my boat... or on my face)

Father with Terminal Cancer Walks Unmarried Daughters Down the Aisle.

Devoted husband and loving father Fred Evans,
has always wanted to walk his daughters
down the aisle on their special day.

Upon discovering that he had metastatic melanoma
through a recovery from a double lung transplant
he knew that he didn't have much time left to accomplish
the few last things he really wants to have the chance to do.

This amazing dad decided to surprised both of his
unmarried daughters Gracie & Kate with a ceremony to do just that.

Fotolanthropy, a non-profit organization devoted to share inspiring stories,
after hearing this heart-melting story reached out to
help commemorate this special occasion.

Fred's family with the help of his wife,
Karla and eldest married daughter Martha.
Gracie and Kate arrived thinking that this
was a surprise dad (Fred) had planned for mom.

The loving father walked each of his precious daughters down the aisle
embracing them and let them know that he would like to fulfill his
tradition in case he was not around for the real thing.

Fred surprised his wife Karla with a
bouquet and a ceremony to renew their vows.

Fred was a never ending beam of light and joy,
spreading nothing but love and happiness
till his last day on July 25th, 2013.

a candy-striped factory.

Creamy, delicious & now as cute as can be.

Who said adorable can't cross over
with industrial?

Another Restaurant & Bar Design Award winner this year .
(see other entries and winners here & here)
This entry was awarded "Best Bar in Europe"
This store is nothing short of what one can illustrate
on a children's novel cover.

Incorporating a fantasy aura similar to
Charlie & the Chocolate Factory

the playful shapes and colours don't trip the
hearty authenticity of the hardware & machinery.

The concept came from a "creamery magic" a whimsical interior scheme
with a modern peppermint candy theme.

Six individual "taps" provide flows into
tastebud magic.  As if that wasn't enough
they also have 34 savory toppings to add to your
small cup of fantasy.

If these were real we'd be in trouble.
So just for dramatic effect they're actually just glass.
Science World Diamond Bing Billboard
Each "diamond" is about walnut sized, unwrapped and
glued on BY HAND. This painful process took bout 3 weeks.

Most gems are actually more rare than diamonds themselves.
