& THIS is why i wanted to blog...
[original written date --> sometime in 2nd yr]
Design cannot be forced. It is a way of thinking, a mind-set, and a lifestyle. It is God-given and it is a talent like no other. It cannot be taught, it can only influence. It, just like every morning waking up, is underrated and taken for granted.
Whoever attempts to teach design is merely imposing their ideas and vision onto another. They are in the end limiting one’s creative ability and essentially, being counterproductive. After all, a good “teacher” of design really is not teaching design at all-- but in fact Creative Problem Solving.
Each person is born with an intuition, one’s upbringing, genes and experiences may shape it, but they’re just the sidekicks. Who’s the big guy behind it all? I don’t know. But whoever or whatever it is, the selected experts are few. Design is a sense instilled in all humans, we all appreciate it, yet some have been given a bigger piece of the map to finding this treasure chest.
Design s like Christmas morning, you might not celebrate it, nor was the idea of Santa Claus ever appealing to you, but the idea of the holiday season is just enough to place a smile on your face.
You might think I’m nuts and a little bit exclusive. But maybe if I just showed you the way I’ve read my map, you too can read into your map a little differently.
Smile. ☺.
Fake your brain out. Did you know by just doing the act of smiling your brain AUTOMATICALLY releases more happy hormones in your system? It’s true.
Sleep is not a need-- it’s a privilege.
Did you know that there is a man on earth that only requires 2 hours per night in order to function properly? (With no consumption of caffeine may I add) But from what I’ve learnt thus far, sleep is just a good time to let my sub conscience roam and let creative juices that I didn’t even know about flow. Sometimes when you’re a little slower that usual, you find the slightest things more amusing.
Breathe.
Don’t let others tell you to grow up.
Age is of the mind, not the year. It’s all right to be more... aged. Truth is, who is someone else to tell you to “act your age”? The way you’re supposed to think at a certain age is just a social structure someone came up with. You can act the way you want wherever you want and whenever you want (given its cool under legal laws). Do what makes you happy, plus if people are telling you to “grow up” I think they’re just jealous that you still have the splash of childhood sunshine in you and a few less wrinkles.
Don’t worry.
“Don't worry. Or worry, but know that worrying is as effective as trying to solve an algebra equation by chewing bubble gum.”
For the optimist: why worry when you can spend all that energy is being happy and making the world a better place?
For the cynic: when you worry, you mope around and you whine. You’re just wasting your time. So get off your lazy behind and get cracking on whatever it is that’s bothering you. LET’S GET PRODUCTIVE PEOPLE.
Caffeine is a necessary evil.
Dance.
Believe the good in people.
There are always going to be rotten people out there. And there are always going to be people with hidden agendas. Everyone has something that taps into their soul and their heart, whatever that may be. That cut-throat-ready-to-step-on-anything-and-everything-to-climb-up-the-corperate-ladder co-worker may only be that way because she has 8 younger brothers and sisters waiting for her to put food on the table. There are always 2 sides to a slice of cheese. I mean cheese is rotten milk, yet it still tastes amazing.
Don’t be embarrassed.
Embarrassment is overrated. No one really cares that much. You make a fool out of yourself; you give yourself a good laugh, a great anecdote at the next party; your friends something to put in your yearbook; that lady on the street something to share with her friends at high tea.
Motivate yourself.
No one else can make you do better no one else can tell you if you’re satisfied.
Google it.
If you don’t know, find out. Living in a world where knowledge is at our fingertips (literally) why are we still so lazy to learn? It’s not like we need to mission to the ends of the world to find out the difference between jam and jelly.
Don’t useearsers erasers.
Your mistakes are your best resource. Look at it so you won’t and can’t do it again.
Talk to strangers.
Don’t harass people on the streets, but don’t be afraid when someone is just passing a sweet hello on the subway. Not everyone is out to get us, although it may seem like it. Sometimes the strangest people can touch our lives in the most fantastical ways.
Don’t look at marks.
Marks don’t matter. Well, they do. But just pretend they don’t.
Laugh.
Good for the mind, heart AND soul. People that laugh are less likely to get cancer. Plus if you laugh REALLY hard you’ll get abs.
Make up your own words.
We speak to communicate. Does it really matter that Webster and Oxford did not recognize our words? Fantabulous. Ginormous. Speedtastic. These only add character and sense of ‘you’ in the way you speak. Plus, it’s kind of cute.
Talk to kids.
They say the greatest things. They notice the unnoticeable. They see things from their little two and a half feet horizon. To them every new colour is the greatest colour. Every new movie is the greatest movie. They learn to love all they come into contact with. Now THAT is an aptitude we shouldn’t grow out of.
Try new clothes.
So you’re the sweatpants and hoodies kind of dude(tte). Why don’t you try on a blazer and some nice denim for a bit? Maybe you’ll discover some parts of your silhouette (and confidence) you didn’t know you had.
Spoil yourself.
Don’t get me wrong, save up for the rainy days, yet let’s be reminded that it doesn’t make you a complete materialist if you want to buy yourself a little something (like a cashmere scarf) once in a while.
Cry
Women live longer by doing so.
Rant.
Like a balloon, you too will burst.
Take care of the small things; the big things will take care of itself.
The little things make the big things. Simply adding a light into a room can change the atmosphere from mysterious to awakening. Taking care of each individual cut on your model will add the integrity needed to put pride and elegance into your design.
Don’t let anyone tell you you’re fat.
You’re only fat when you think you are. Eat as much as your heart desires. Chances are you will see 50 years down the road how gorgeous you were. Let the ones around you tell you how gorgeous you still are.
Be positive.
It could always be worse.
Get out of your comfort zone.
Go. Look. Experience. Why sit on your couch watching other people live their lives and try to live vicariously through them when THAT can BE YOU. Everyone around you, all the cultures that encircle you, explore it, even if it scares you.
Be happy to hit a wall. HARD.
After the good comes the bad… than the good again. If there are never dreadful moments in your life you will never be able to tell the sparkling ones. When you’re so stuck you want to cry and yank out your hair, you’ll run into the Good Samaritan called ‘Epiphany’.
Sharing is caring.
Share your food: to lessen up the calories
Share your clothes: to decrease cost-per-wear
Share your ideas: because no one’s trying to steal it (most of the time) and they can do nothing but put it under a different light.
Never De-sparkle.
After a 30-minute presentation that’s probably all they’ll retain. Your attitude is your best advertisement. Have faith—always.
Consume fiber.
There’s nothing better to clear your mind than by clearing your system.
Never say something behind someone’s back that you can’t say to his or her face.
Why would you do that anyways? It’s a fruitless speech. You tell someone else that may tell someone else that may tell someone else and eventually get the situation worse. You have a problem with it? Change it.
Doodle.
Sometimes you think of the greatest things without thinking at all.
Take it, leave it, fold it, dye it, eat it, live it, pulp it.
After all, this is only how I see it.
